Italy's national airline is Alitalia, flying out of it's hub airport of Milan as well as Rome and offering a service that is especially prominent around Europe and is seen on a few of the main long haul routes, Dubai being one of the airline's most popular.
The carrier operates a fleet of just under two hundred aircraft at last count, travelling to around a hundred cities around the world. Although the majority of these are within Europe they operate a similar technique to some of the othe rEuropean carriers, using the short hop European flights to feed the passengers into the main Italian airports, from where the longer journeys will set off, with a full complement of passengers.
A trip with Alitalia is a fun and enjoyable one, with a cabin crew that are a pleasure to be with, a good choice of flights and some attractive pricing.
